Apple’s Dickinson is getting into the Halloween spirit. In anticipation of its second season which premieres January 8th, the series released a teaser trailer fit for spooky season. The first look at the coming episodes also coincides with the announcement that Dickinson has been renewed for a third season via Deadline.
Dickinson stars Hailee Steinfeld (Edge of Seventeen) as one of America’s most famed and beloved poets, Emily Dickinson. Dickinson lived from 1830 to 1886, and during that time she wrote poetry that dealt with themes of love, life and death. Her most well known poems include “I’m Nobody, Who are You?” And “Because I could not Stop for Death.” A sort of recluse especially in her later years, Dickinson focuses on Emily when she’s coming of age.
Though Dickinson is a 19th century period piece, it references modern day pop culture and has a soundtrack featuring current pop stars and rappers. The cast of Dickinson includes rapper Wiz Khalifa, Jane Krakowski (30 Rock), Ella Hunt (Anna and the Apocalypse), and Toby Huss (Halt and Catch Fire).
The teaser released on Thursday is a clip of a scene in the upcoming second season. In it, Emily and her friends are performing a type of candle lit ritual, with her asking if she should attempt to achieve fame. It’s a fitting activity that coincides with the month of October as the scene imitates horror film tropes.
There will be several additions to the cast in the upcoming season, including guest stars Nick Kroll (Big Mouth), Will Pullen (The Good Wife), and Ayo Edebiri (Big Mouth). Dickinson is executive produced by Steinfeld along with showrunner Alena Smith (The Affair).
