The Good Cop stars Tony Danza and Josh Groban. The showrunner and executive producer is Andy Breckman, the creator of Monk. Randy Zisk of Bones and Monk and Howard Klein of The Office and The Mindy Project are also serving as executive producer with Danza on as producer. The 10 episode series will be the first foray for Groban in his own small screen show.
Back in June, Deadline reported Netflix’s release of this teaser trailer that gave a sense of the relationship between Danza and Groban’s characters.
This trailer was first played at the Television Critics Association on Sunday. The series details the story of a father and son who are intrinsically different people. The father played by Danza, known as Big Tony, is an ex-police officer for the NYPD that went to jail for 7 years, though still maintains a loveable and roguish quality. He lives with his son, Tony Jr. or TJ who is played by Groban. TJ is the opposite of his father in that he is known for being straight edge. In the trailer below, TJ mentions how the only thing that his father didn’t teach him was the ability to tell between right and wrong. He is also brilliant and known for solving ‘unsolvable’ cases. Through the course of the series, they become unwilling partners, working together and complimenting each other’s skills to solve cases.
The cast will include Monica Barbaro of Chicago Justice, Isiah Whitlock Jr. of Pete’s Dragon, and Bill Kottkamp of Fist Fight. The hour-long dramedy will be available from September 21st on Netflix. See the trailer below.
