First Lady Michelle Obama will guest star on an episode of Disney Channel series Jessie on Friday, May 16.
The episode will celebrate military families to raise awareness about the service, sacrifice and needs of military families. A Public Service Announcement featuring Mrs. Obama accompanies this episode. Disney Channel has a long legacy of supporting the U.S. Armed Services and the White House’s Joining Forces initiative.
Jessie centers on 22 year-old Jessie Prescott as a New York City nanny to four children – Emma, Ravi, Luke, Zuri and their pet lizard Mrs. Kipling. The episode titled, “From the White House to Our House” focuses Jessie and Zuri’s effort at throwing a birthday party for new friend Taylor, who misses her mother a deployed member of the military. After Taylor decides not to celebrate without her mother, Zuri asks for help from Mrs. Obama.
This episode stars Debby Ryan, Kevin Chamberlin, Peyton List, Karan Brar, Cameron Boyce and Skai Jackson. Guest starring is Kyla-Drew Simmons, Yvette Saunders, Vernee Watson-Johnson and Lauren Pritchard.
It’s A Laugh Productions produces Jessie. Pamela Eells O’Connell is creator and executive producer of the series with Debby Ryan as co-executive producer.
First Lady Obama served as keynote speaker for last year’s Disney’s Veterans Institute event. The event heightened the success of Disney’s Heroes Work Here commitment to hire veterans and encourage more employment opportunities for those in the military transitioning into civilian life. First Lady Obama and Dr. Jill Biden launched Joining Forces in 2011, an initiative that provides resources to service members, veterans, and military spouses to find jobs at home.
This special episode of Jessie premieres Friday, May 16 at 8:00 p.m., ET/PT on the Disney Channel.
