All that glitters is not gold in the first full trailer for HBO’s second season of The White Lotus. The Emmy-winning anthology drama series from creator Mike White (Enlightened, Nacho Libre) trades its lei for wine as the season is set at a White Lotus resort in Sicily, Italy. The White Lotus is a satirical drama that explores the delicate fractures in the masks of the affluent guests who frequent the exclusive resort. The narrative will follow them over a week as their truths bubble to the surface resulting in what appears to be a murder. As the series is set in a new locale with new characters, one individual guest returns from the first season.
Jennifer Coolidge (Shotgun Wedding, Legally Blonde), who won an Emmy for her season one portrayal, returns as Tanya McQuoid-Hunt, but this time she isn’t alone. She will be accompanied for a romantic getaway by her husband Greg, played by Jon Gries (Napolean Dynamite, Taken 2), and her assistant, Haley Lu Richardson’s Portia (Five Feet Apart, Split). As Greg questions why Portia had to tag along, Tanya is afraid that Greg seems more distant than usual.
Moon Knight’s F. Murray Abraham, The Sopranos’ Michael Imperioli, and The Magicians’ Adam DiMarco play father, son, and grandson whose vacation to the luxury hotel is a result of infidelities Imperioli can’t seem to keep quiet. We see his character’s vices with two native women played by Simone Tabasco (I Babysitter, Luna Park) and Beatrice Grannó (Zero, The Time of Indifference).
A foursome visiting the resort is two married couples played by Theo James (The Time Traveler’s Wife, Divergent) and Meghann Fahy (The Bold Type, Those People), and Aubrey Plaza (Legion, Emily the Criminal) and Will Sharpe (Black Pond, Giri/Haji) – the Babcocks and the Spillers, respectively. Plaza’s Harper questions the basis for the Babcocks befriending them, especially since her husband Ethan’s recent surplus of money after selling his company.
All these interactions occur under the watchful eye of the hotel staff, led by Sabrina Imacciatore’s (There’s No Place Like Home, Kiss Me Again) manager Valentina. Additional cast members include hotel guests Leo Woodall (Holby City, Citadel) and Tom Hollander (The Ipcress File, Rev.) who play a nephew and uncle.
The second season of The White Lotus will premiere Sunday, October 30 on HBO and stream on HBO Max.
