Adult Swim, Cartoon Network’s adult programming block, has announced the details of their first ever convention as a part of the Comic Con@Home. As revealed on their official website, the Adult Swim Con will be fully online and hosted this weekend from Thursday the 23rd to Saturday the 25th.
As reported by Comic Book, Comic Con@Home is this year’s replacement for the traditional San Diego Comic Con (or SDCC) experience. SDCC is typically the biggest pop culture convention of the year, where studios reveal details for upcoming movies and TV shows and fans get a rare opportunity to interact with the creators of their favorite media. While the coronavirus pandemic has prevented holding a normal conference in a physical location, several studios and networks have agreed to hosting a similar event exclusively online.
Adult Swim is one of the networks participating in this groundbreaking virtual event. The convention will host a variety of panels focusing on the wide repertoire of Adult Swim shows. These panels vary from focusing on fan interaction, having creators commentate on their own work, and sharing new details on upcoming and all-new shows.
There will be three panels on Thursday, July 23rd, each an hour long. These include a Robot Chicken marathon with the commentary of the creators and stars of the show (starting at 8 PM EST) and the debut of Adult Swim’s new show YOLO: Crystal Fantasy (9 PM EST.) The crew of Robot Chicken including Seth Green (Family Guy), Katee Sachoff (Battlestar Galactica), Matt Senreich (The Simpsons), Donald Faison (Scrubs), and Breckin Meyer (Clueless) will accept questions from fans via Twitch chat. The panel for YOLO is also an experimental concert hosted by rapper Flying Lotus.
On Friday the 24th, Adult Swim will host four panels. The first is a cosplay cup, attempting to emulate some of the fan interactions of the traditional Comic-Con experience (7 PM EST.) There will also be an interview and commentary from the crew of Rick and Morty, including series creator Dan Harmon (Community) (8 PM EST.) The last two are a showcase for the upcoming Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time video game (9:30 PM EST) and a marathon of the to-be-determined winner of the online bracket of Adult Swim shows (12 AM EST.)
Finally, there will be two panels on Saturday the 25th. The first will be a mystery Q&A panel, where random crew members from various Adult Swim shows will accept questions from Instagram via the official Adult Swim account (7 PM EST). The second will be focused on Adult Swim’s anime block Toonami, which will showcase updates from their upcoming anime Uzumaki and Blade Runner: Black Lotus alongside interviews with the crew behind Toonami (12 AM EST.)
Details for the full schedule can be found on Adult Swim’s website. The event will be streamed on their official Twitch account. One of Adult Swim’s livestreams, focusing on the tournament bracket, is available to watch below.
