According to Deadline, nearly two years after the death of Friends’ actor Matthew Perry (The West Wing, Ally McBeal), the final defendant in the criminal proceedings related to the overdose has pleaded guilty. Jasveen Sangha, who has also been called the “Ketamine Queen” was set to stand trial in just over a month, but now has admitted to being a drug dealer and allegedly delivering the fatal dose of the tranquilizer Ketamine to Perry via Erik Fleming. Sangha had previously resisted switching her plea but has now joined the four other defendants in entering a guilty plea.
Deadline has reported that Sangha did not offer much in the way of words outside of pleading guilty. She was returned to police custody afterwards, where she has remained since August 2024. Her sentencing will likely take place in the fall, and she faces up to 65 years in prison. The other four defendants, two of whom are medical doctors, will also be sentenced in the upcoming months.
Via Deadline, the US Attorney’s Office of the Central District of California released a statement Monday regarding Sangha’s sentencing. “Upon entering her guilty plea, Sangha will face at her sentencing hearing – which is expected to occur in the coming months – a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison on the drug-involved premises count, up to 10 years in federal prison for each ketamine distribution count, and up to 15 years in federal prison for the count of distribution of ketamine resulting in death or serious bodily injury,”
According to Deadline, messages exchanged between her and Fleming via Signal directly following Perry’s death indicated that she was allegedly the most closely associated with the overdose. She told Fleming to “delete all our messages”.
Deadline has reported that Perry’s body was discovered in his hot tub in October 2023. A coroner’s report in December 2023 stated his death was due to the “acute effects of ketamine.” It also noted drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine, a drug often used to help those struggling with opioid addiction. Perry starred as Chandler in the sitcom Friends, which began in 1994. It ran until 2004 and is noted as one of the standout sitcoms of the 90s and early 2000s. He struggled with addiction his entire life. Perry’s other roles consisted of The West Wing, Ally McBeal, The Good Wife, and The Kennedys: After Camelot.
