One challenge that had arisen in the last couple of months is the passing of the magnificent Helen McRory (Skyfall) who played fan favorite, Polly Gray. Her work has spanned many decades and given her fans across the world. The news broke while the show was in production so it is still unknown if she will grace the screen one last time as the fantastic Aunt Pol.
Another challenge that swept the program was an investigation over a break of Covid protocol in the first days of May. Via The Guardian, the entire probe by Union Bectu, a broadcasting and communications agency over the United Kingdom, is centered around a positive result of a covid test on set. Although it was later deemed a false positive, showrunners found out about the positive test and did not halt production for many hours. It was stopped later in the day and then continued when multiple negative tests came back for the patient.
Even with all the challenges coming for the show in the past year, the season was able to be finished. Fans will be ecstatic to now know that the family is back. Cillian Murphy (A Quiet Place Part II) and Paul Anderson (The Revenant) are set to return as the Shelby brothers dominating the streets of Birmingham. Other veterans of the show, Sophie Rundle (Bodyguard) and Finn Cole (Animal Kingdom) have also signed on for the final season.
The world of Peaky Blinders may not be completely finished after the season, though. Via ComingSoon.net, creator Steven Knight (See) is still planning for a movie to follow the final season. Even the film project might not be the end of the story as the option for spinoff series are still very much at play for Knight. The streets of Birmingham may never be safe!
