The Netflix original fantasy series Fate: The Winx Saga has been renewed for a season two, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. The new season will contain eight hour-long episodes and will begin filming later this year in Ireland.
Fate: The Winx Saga is loosely based on the animated Nickelodeon children series Winx Club, created by Iginio Straffi (Club 57). The updated Netflix series is a teen drama set within a fantastical world where young fairies harness and master their powers. Set at the magical boarding school Alfea in the Otherworld, the series focuses on five teenage fairies as they each come into their own.
Abigail Cowen (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) stars as Bloom, a powerful teenage fairy. Her fellow classmates and friends include Hannah van der Westhuysen (The Fugitives) as Stella, Elisha Applebaum (No Reason) as Musa, Eliot Salt (Normal People) as Terra, and Precious Mustapha (The Stranger) as Aisha.
Brian Young (The Vampires Diaries) serves as the showrunner on Fate: The Winx Saga and executive produces alongside Kris Thykier (Riviera) , Judy Counihan (Bulletproof), and Joanne Lee (Club 57) and Cristiana Buzzelli from Rainbow.
Young released a statement on Thursday in the wake of the season 2 renewal picked up by Entertainment Weekly: “The six episodes in season one only scratched the surface of this incredibly rich world and the powerful fairies who inhabit it…As Bloom’s story continues to evolve, I can’t wait for you to learn even more about Aisha, Stella, Terra, and Musa! And you never know who might show up at Alfea next term…”
