‘Fargo’ Season 3 Trailer Showcases Ewan McGregor In Dual Role

The third season of black comedy/crime drama/Americana masterpiece Fargo is set to release in less than month and fans are finally getting a glimpse into the upcoming season. This particular edition of the anthology, set in 2010, will star Ewan McGregor, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Jim Gaffigan in addition to Harry Potter standout David Thewlis as the series jumps ahead to the 21st Century. McGregor will be playing dual roles as brothers at odds Emmit and Ray. At face value, Emmit seems to be in a much better place financially (and physically) than his sibling. Cheers to a solid makeup crew.

Carrie Coon will be filling the role of this season’s police chief, Gloria Burgle, while Elizabeth Winstead plays the rough around the edges lady love of parole officer Ray. Thewlis is the as of now questionable V.M. Vargas.

Based on the award winning film from Joel and Ethan Coen, Fargo is set in the American Upper Midwest and focuses on the criminal dealings of the area. While the characters certainly play up a rural, “aw-shucks” type of charm, the stakes are often quite high. This edition’s setting could easily play to the reintroduction of heroes and villains past.

This season presents an interesting concept with the dual lead played by McGregor. Though such a concept doesn’t always make due on a hat trick, expect Fargo to play on the nature of the primary actor’s range and the ingenuity of telling true stories that can only be found in a place so remote. The critically acclaimed series is only getting started, and the additional time and care taken for the upcoming season likely spell good tidings for fans who are hungry for more grim, grisly, somehow humorous accounts from America’s Northern expanse.
