Into the darkness we go again. The fantasy epic Shadow and Bone at Netflix has officially been renewed for a second season. The streaming giant announced the news on Monday, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
The big announcement came during Netflix’s Geeked Week Event. Entertainment Weekly picked up a statement made by Eric Heisserer (Arrival), showrunner of Shadow and Bone: “I’m honored and thrilled to return to the Grishaverse and continue the stories of these endearing characters, particularly Milo…” Milo the goat was the scene stealer of season one, and quickly became a trending topic across social media platforms.
Shadow and Bone is based upon the book series written by author Leigh Bardugo (Six of Crows). An executive producer on the series, she released a statement on thee series renewal picked up by Entertainment Weekly: “I’ve been writing in the Grishaverse for nearly 10 years now, so I’m thrilled we get to keep this adventure going…There are so many places we’ve barely gotten to visit and I can’t wait to introduce our audience to more of the saints, soldiers, thugs, thieves, princes, and privateers who make this world so much fun to explore. It’s going to be real magic to see our brilliant, talented cast expand.”
Fans can rest easy as the majority of actors from season one will be reprising their roles for season two. Jessie Mei Li (Last Night in Soho), Archie Renaux (Gold Digger), Freddy Carter (Free Rein), Amita Suman (The Outpost), Kit Young (Endeavor), Ben Barnes (Westworld), Calahan Skogman (GI Joe), and Danielle Galligan (Cold Courage) will all return to the Grishaverse.
Premiering on Netflix April 23, Shadow and Bone quickly became a smash hit. Entertainment Weekly reported that according to Neilson, 55 million households watched the series within the first 28 days of the show’s release. It also reached the number one spot of the most watched series on Netflix in 79 different countries.
