The next primetime drama on OWN is preparing for its January debut. Deadline reports OWN’s The Kings of Napa released a full trailer of the family drama that follows an affluent African American family’s winery business in sunny southern California. The series hails from Claws executive producer, Janine Sherman Barrois, who is also the head writer and showrunner. View the full video below.
According to Deadline, the show focuses on the Kings and their House of King vineyard, a winery business that has supplied the multi-generational family wealth and status amongst their peers. But as the family’s patriarch decides to depart the business, a fight for the throne will bring the worst out of everyone, including a dark secret that could topple the kingdom.
Deadline reports the series stars Ebonée Noel (FBI, Still Star-Crossed) as August King, a marketing professional whose keen business sense makes her the ideal successor to her father, Reginald King, played by Isiah Whitlock Jr (The Wire, Da 5 Bloods). Karen LeBlanc (Ransom, Cracked) will play Vanessa King, the matriarch of the family who sacrificed her own career to stand by Reginald’s side. Rance Nix (Wishful Thinking, Jabberwanky) is Dana, August’s older brother and the House of King’s current CFO. And the youngest King sibling, Christian, played by Ashlee Brian (The Demented, The 40-Year-Old Version) manages the vineyard’s bottling facility.
Yaani King Mondeschein (The Last Fall, Sneaker Heads) plays Bridgette Pierce, August’s cousin and the manager of the vineyard. And her mother, Devika Parikh’s (Three Rivers, Air Marshall) Melanie Pierce, returns to Napa after a long hiatus. Melanie will pose the greatest threat as she holds a secret that could change the family – and its business – forever.
According to Deadline, Barrois is joined by fellow executive producers Michelle Listenbee Brown (Bigger, The Parkers) and Oprah Winfrey (Greenleaf, Wrinkle In Time). The series is produced through Harpo Films in partnership with Warner Bros. Television. The first two episodes were directed by Hair Love Oscar-winning director, Matthew A. Cherry.
Catch the season premiere of The Kings of Napa on Tuesday, January 11 at 8 p.m. ET on OWN.
