Fox Entertainment has put one-hour family drama Free Will, written by 13 Reason Why’s Kirk A. Moore, into development. Quinton Peeples (Flashforward) will serve as the showrunner, according to Deadline.
The show, created in part by Moore and Will Packer Media, will follow the Shoppe family in their lives as prominent Black business owners in the New Orleans psychic scene. There is currently no information on casting for Free Will.
Along with writing, Moore will executive produce with Will Packer (Girls Trip) and Sheila Ducksworth (Soul Food) from Will Packer Media.
The Peeples-Moore duo will be reunited on this project from earlier work together on Marvel’s Runaways, which stars Virginia Gardner (All the Bright Places), Lyrica Okano (Pimp) and Gregg Sulkin (Wizards of Waverly Place), and is currently streaming its third and final season on Hulu. For Runaways, Peeples served as a co-executive producer with Moore as a writer, via Deadline.
In other projects, Moore was also staffed on seasons 1 and 2 of 13 Reasons Why, adapted from Jay Asher’s novel under the same name, where Brian Yorkey (Next to Normal) served as the showrunner. As reported in Deadline, he earned a Writer’s Guild Award nomination in 2015 in the Long Form—Original Program for his work on seasons 2 and 3 of John Ridley’s Emmy-winning ABC series American Crime.
There has not yet been an announcement of when Free Will is expected to air on Fox.
