According to Variety, Amazon MGM Studios is developing a Mass Effect television show based on the video game franchise. Daniel Casey (The Butcher’s Daughter, The Death of Michael Smith) is the executive producer and writer for the show. His recent screenplay was F9: The Fast Saga and he is repped by CAA, Hansen Jacobson and Writ Large.
Specific plot details have not yet been released to the public. According to Variety, in 2021, Amazon announced that a Mass Effect TV series was planned to be designed. However, no updates were released until this year. Many attempts were made also made to create a feature film, but none of them ever happened.
In 2007, the first Mass Effect game was released, acclaimed by many fans. After the sudden success, three more games were added to the main series. The last game released was Mass Effect: Andromeda, which launched in 2017. The video game has grown so popular that many mobile games, animated films, comic books, novels and many other media formats have been added to the franchise so fans can keep coming back.
Via Variety, the logline and story for the first three games of Mass Effect “revolves around Commander Shepard, a human soldier in the 22nd century trying to save humanity from a race of aliens known as the Reapers. “Andromeda” moved the games much further into the future with a new protagonist, with a fifth game also in the works.”
Variety states the games and an added franchise were developed by BioWare and are now published by EA.
Joining Casey in the executive producer team is Ari Arad (Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Ghost in the Shell) and Karim Zreik (Jessica Jones, Cloak & Dagger) for Cedar Tree Productions and Michael Gamble (Rebuild 3: Gangs of Deadsville, Anthem) from Electronic Arts.
Arad produced many game to TV show adaptations such as Borderlands, Ghost in the Shell and Uncharted, as well as being an executive producer for Blade, Ghost Rider and Iron Man.
Zreik is repped by Ginsburg Daniels Kallis. He previously worked in the Marvel Television unit as an executive producer for shows such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Legion, Luke Cage, The Punisher and more.
