Erika Alexander will be joining in a reoccurring role for The CW’s Black Lightning. Warner Bros Television announced that she will be there for three episodes as Perenna. Season two will premiere on Monday October 9th.
Alexander’s character Perenna is described as a therapist that has telepathic abilities. She works with Jennifer (China Anne McClain) and helps her handle her handle the manifesting powers and the complex emotions as she deals with the idea of having superpowers. What is interesting about her character is that she does not have a clear DC Comics counterpart. This means that outside of her character description not much is known about Perenna.
Alexander is a writer, actress, and producers. Her credits include: Cousin Pam on The Cosby Show, Maxine Show on Living Single, which might be the two shows she is most well known for, Detective LaToya in Get Out, Bosch, Queen Sugar, and Beyond. She will also make appearances in HBO’s Insecure and the horror-thriller film I See You
McClain said at the San Diego Comic-Con.”I love that they’re tackling it from that perspective of getting her a therapist because as you can see in Season One, Jennifer had so many psychological issues with getting these powers. She did not want them. She already felt like an outsider being a part of this amazing family, and living on the house on top of the hill, and so adding super powers on top of it just made things worse for her. So bringing the therapist in really is gonna help her control her powers. Because she’s so powerful — her cells create pure energy — so if she gets really pissed off, that’s not gonna be a good situation. I don’t want to say too much on this topic because it’s something we’re filming right now.”
Season two of Black Lightning premieres on October 9th on The CW.
