Deadline has reported that Eric Dane (X-Men: The Last Stand, Bad Boys: Ride Or Die) was planned to present at the 2025 Emmys with a former Grey’s Anatomy costar but was forced to miss the reunion due to unforeseen medical issues. The actor, who has recently been diagnosed with ALS, fell in his kitchen and was reportedly getting stitches for a head wound just before the presentation.
According to Deadline, Dane spoke with the Washington Post about the missed opportunity. “ALS is a nasty disease. I missed an opportunity I was really looking forward to, It would have been great to see Jesse and get reunited with some of my peers, and to be able to present in front of my colleagues. I thought it would have been a special moment. So I was really upset about it, but you know, there was nothing I could do about it.”
Deadline has reported that Emmy producers planned for Jesse Williams (The Cabin In The Woods, The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2) and Dane to present together. The two shared the screen of Grey’s Anatomy for years. When Dane was forced to pull out at the last minute, Williams presented solo.
According to Deadline, Dane announced his ALS diagnosis last April. He released a statement at that time when he spoke with People magazine. “I have been diagnosed with ALS, I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
According to Mayoclinic, ALS is a “nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.” The disease eventually causes loss of muscle control and worsens over time. A common symptom of the disease is “tripping and falling.”
