Last night, Netflix experienced a major security breach, resulting in the premature release of Netflix animes scheduled to premiere later this year. According to Comicbook.com, the episodes of the second season of Arcane and episodes of Terminator Zero, Ranma 1.2, and Dandadan were posted illegally across social media.
Arcane, a Netflix original animation series, is based on the worldwide popular computer game, League Of Legends. The series first premiered on November 6, 2021, and its first season was widely acclaimed by most viewers, including viewers who never played the game. According to IGN.com, the second season was supposed to be released this November, but five out of nine episodes of Arcane‘s second season appeared online.
The Arcane fanbase seems divided regarding the anime’s accidental leak of full episodes. Some fans have been posting links to leaked episodes, while others made sure to avoid any spoilers.
There has yet to be any official statement released by Riot Games, the developers of League of Legends, or Netflix.
Back in 2022, Arcane was praised as one of the best video game adaptations of all time. According to IGN.com, Arcane received four Emmys, five Annie Awards and The Game Award For Best Adaptation in 2022. Tencent, the parent company of Riot Games, announced Arcane’s second and final season during its 2024 Video V Vision conference.
The official synopsis of Arcane is as follows:
“Two sisters. Two cities. One discovery that will change the world forever. In the cities of Piltover and Zaun, unrest stirs as inventors and thieves, politicians and crime lords chafe against the constraints of a society torn asunder. As dissent reaches a fever pitch, two sisters steal an artifact of untold power. Discover and danger intertwine as heroes are born and bonds are broken. Will this power change the world, or lead it to ruins? This is the world of Arcane.”
