Sunday’s season four premiere of HBO’s Westworld came laced with a familiar musician’s unique take on a well-known indie-pop track. Iron Man and Game of Thrones composer, Ramin Djawadi, returned to the series with his interpretation of “Video Games” originally performed by Lana del Rey (Born to Die, Norman Fucking Rockwell!). In a press release from WaterTower Music, the exclusive track was announced as being available for digital stream and purchase. Listen to the song below.
The prestige science fiction series starring Evan Rachel Wood (Thirteen, Phoenix Rising), Jeffery Wright (No Time to Die, The Batman), Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad, BoJack Horseman), and Ed Harris (Stepmom, Apollo 13) is known for its alternative takes on popular modern songs. In previous seasons, Djawadi has reworked tracks from artists such as Kanye West (Yeezus, Donda), Amy Winehouse (Back to Black, Frank), Nirvana (Nevermind, Bleach), The Weeknd (House of Balloons, Starboy), Guns N’ Roses (Appetite for Destruction, Use Your Illusion), The Rolling Stones (Sticky Fingers, Tattoo You), and many more.
This season sees the return of the main cast which also includes Thandiwe Newton (Crash, God Country), Luke Hemsworth (Death of Me, Thor: Ragnarok), Angela Sarafyan (A House on the Bayou, Hot Sluts), and Tessa Thompson (Passing, Little Woods). The season welcomed two newcomers: Ariana DeBose, fresh off her Best Supporting Actress Oscar win for last year’s West Side Story; and, Aurora Perrineau, best known for her roles in Jem and the Holograms and Fox’s Prodigal Son. The season also includes James Marsden (Sonic the Hedgehog, X-Men) who last appeared in season two as Delores’ long-time lover and savior, Teddy.
Westworld was created by Jonathan Nolan (Person of Interest, Reminiscence) and Lisa Joy (Core Conversations Pushing Daisies) and is based on the novel and film written by the late science-fiction scribe, Michael Crichton (Jurrasic Park, The Andromeda Strain). Nolan and Joy executive produce through their Kilter Films imprint in association with JJ Abrams’s (Fringe, Lost) Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television. Additional executive producers include Richard J. Lewis (Barney’s Version, K9: P.I.), writer Alison Schapker (Alias, Almost Human), Ben Stephenson (Heartbeat, Sherlock), Denis Thé (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Person of Interest), and Athena Wickham (Fallout, Mission Impossible III).
Viewers and music lovers alike can enjoy the season’s full soundtrack via the Official Westworld Playlist. New episodes of Westworld premiere Sunday evenings at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max.
