Emmy Rossum (Shameless) has joined the cast of Apple TV+’s upcoming drama series The Crowded Room, according to Deadline. The cast already includes high profile names such as Tom Holland (Spider-Man: No Way Home) and Amanda Seyfried (Dear John).
The drama series, which will be an anthology series, will be executive produced by Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) under his Weed Road Productions banner for Apple Studios and New Regency Productions, per Deadline. The 10-episode first season of the series is based on Goldsman’s life and inspired by the Daniel Keyes biography, The Minds of Billy Milligan, according to Deadline.
Apple describes the new series as a show that “will explore inspirational stories of those who have struggled, and learned to successfully live with, mental illness,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
Holland will play the lead, Danny Sullivan, who is loosely based on Milligan, Deadline reports. Milligan was the first person acquitted of a crime because of multiple-personality disorder, also known as dissociative identity disorder. Deadline also reports that Holland will executive produce The Crowded Room alongside Goldsman.
THR reports that Rossum will play Holland’s mother, Candy, who is obsessed with finding a partner as a means of salvation. THR also reported that Seyfried will play Rya, who is a clinical psychologist facing the toughest case of her career while balancing her life as a single mother.
Kornel Mundruczo (Pieces of a Woman) will direct all 10 episodes of the first season of The Crowded Room, as well as join Holland and Goldsman as executive producers, according to THR.
On top of Goldsman, Holland, and Mundruczo, Deadline reports that The Crowded Room will be executive produced by Suzanne Heathcote (Killing Eve), Alexandra Milchan (The Wolf of Wall Street) for EMJAG Productions, and New Regency’s Arnon Milchan (12 Years A Slave), Yariv Milchan (Ad Astra) and Michael Schaefer (The Martian).
