Oscar winner and House of Cards actor, Kevin Spacey, has been charged with four counts of sexual assault in the U.K., via CNN. Britain’s Crown Persecution Services (CPS) announced the charges Thursday after a thorough investigation and gathering of evidence by the Metropolitan Police Service. The 62-year-old actor has been accused by three defendants of alleged incidents that occurred between 2005 and 2013.
According to Deadline, one accuser, who is now in their 40s, alleges two incidents transpired in March of 2005 in London. The second accuser alleged an incident occurred in August of 2008. A third accuser alleges the offense “of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent” took place in 2013 in Gloucestershire, England. Both the latter two victims are now in their 30s.
This is the second round of accusations Spacey has faced since 2017 when London’s Old Vic Theatre announced it had received an initial 20 allegations of inappropriate behavior against Spacey from members of its company, via Deadline. Spacey had served many years there as the theatre’s artistic director. The accusations found the star of Netflix’s political thriller, House of Cards, fired from the show and symbolically “canceled” from the public eye.
In the wake of these allegations, three other men, including Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp, came forward with their own stories of being allegedly sexually harassed or allegedly assaulted by Spacey. Rapp and an unnamed plaintiff filed a sexual assault suit against the A Time to Kill actor in 2020. Prior to this a criminal case was in the works, but details regarding possible evidence tampering and the accuser pleading the fifth saw the case dismissed. Another accuser had filed a lawsuit as well but eventually withdrew not wanting to be re-traumatized.
According to CNN, the charges cannot be officially applied unless the actor lands on either England or Wales soil. Despite Spacey’s limited public persona, he has managed to star in two films appearing at this month’s Cannes Film Festival. CPS had not made a decision on extraditing the actor to face the charges officially.
