Deadline announced that the fourth installment of the Netflix true-crime series, Monster, just announced that Ella Beatty (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Variations) has been cast as the lead. Beatty is the daughter of two famous actors, Warren Beatty (Once Upon a River, Love Affair) and Annette Bening (Lucky, Poolman). Rebecca Hall (Godzilla vs. Kong, Shakespear Live: The Tempest) and Vicky Krieps (Father Mother Sister Brother, Love Me Tender) will also star in the series.
The Monster franchise was launched with Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which is among Netflix’s top ten English-language series of all time. The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story closely follows behind.
According to Deadline, Monster‘s fourth season tells the story about Lizzie Borden (portrayed by Beatty), who in 1892 was tried and then acquitted for the murders of her father and stepmother in Massachusetts. Hall will play the stepmother, and Krieps will play the maid. The case of Lizzie Borden received publicity and has remained a part of American popular culture for the last few decades. Borden has been portrayed in numerous films, television shows, and theater adaptations. Most recently, in the Lifetime television show The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, Christina Ricci ( Yellowjackets, Sleepy Hollow) played Borden. In the 2018 feature film Lizzie, Chloe Sevigny (After the Hunt, Big Love) portrayed Borden, and Kristen Stewart (Specter, Love Lies Bleeding) played the maid.
Deadline mentions Beatty graduated from Juilliard in 2022. She then made her Broadway debut in Appropriate, landing the leading role after Elle Fanning (Predator: Badlands, Death Stranding: On the Beach). She also starred in Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes opposite Billy Crudup (The Morning Show, Forty Winks) and Lily Rabe (Downtown Owl, The Tender Bar). Beatty is repped by CAA and Entertainment 360.
According to Deadline, Hall is repped by WME and the UK’s Julian Belfrage Associations and Henson Jacobson Teller. She can be seen in the upcoming films Ella McCay and Onslaught. Krieps, a German actress, will star in the comedy-drama Father Mother Sister Brother. Krieps is repped by CAA and UK’s United Artists.
