CBS TV Studio has eleven series returning to the network for the Fall 2018-19 lineup. This includes the popular Friday night dramas of Hawaii Five-O, MacGyver and Blue Bloods. Reality shows Survivor and Amazing Race will be back along with news shows 60 Minutes and 48 Hours. Other regular shows include Bull, NCIS: New Orleans, Madam Secretary, and NCIS: Los Angeles.
Last week it was announced that several comedies were back on schedule including Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, and Mom as well as dramas S.W.A.T, SEAL Team, and with Mark Harmon’s re-signing, NCIS. Harmon’s new contract not only solidified his role on anchor NCIS but his executive producing gig on the sister shows.
The renewed shows have slots in the top 20 series and those with 10+ million viewers. During this time of reboots, 3 of CBS renewals come from a historical background. Hawaii Five-O originally aired for 12 years (1968-1980) with Jack Lord in the Steve McGarrett role now held by Alex O’Laughlin. MacGyver and S.W.A.T. had slightly shorter seasons with 7 and 2 respectively. CBS is likely banking on the reboot popularity train with Murphy Brown, Magnum P.I., and Cagney & Lacey on the slate for Fall as well.
While Tom Selleck won’t be joining the Magnum P.I. reboot, he maintains a spot on CBS with his renewed Blue Bloods. Entering season 8, Selleck obviously is still able to strike gold on network television.
There are a few other CBS shows still waiting in the wings for their call to the stage. These include dramas Criminal Minds and Scorpion along with comedies Life in Pieces, Superior Donuts, Kevin Can Wait, and Man with a Plan.
