‘Elementary’ Rob Doherty Signs 3 Year Overall Deal With CBS

Elementary, my dear Watson!

It appears CBS Studios and executive producer and creator Rob Doherty have signed a new overall deal to continue working together— at least for the next three years.

It was reported earlier this week by Deadline that Rob Doherty (Tru Calling and Medium) and CBS came to terms not only to continue working together on Elementary but also to give Doherty the opportunity to develop and supervise new projects under CBS Studios.

Elementary has been a smash hit for CBS’ viewership and according to a statement given by CBS Corporate chairman Leslie Moonves, “[Elementary] made approximately an $80 million profit for the corporation.”

Coming to this agreement, Doherty will continue his responsibilities as the executive producer and add showrunner to his credits.

CBS’ Elementary gives a modern twist on the classic story of the Sherlock Holmes characters. Holmes is played by Jonny Lee Miller (Eli Stone and Dexter) and Joan Watson, although written as a man (John) in the books, is played by Lucy Liu (Kill Bill and Southland). No longer stuck in the past, Elementary lands in modern times in a big way. The series has been doing so well over the years that it is headed into it’s fifth season.

According to Den Of Geek, CBS is likely to premiere the fifth season later this Fall. With the first two seasons having premiered in September it would make a logical argument to believe the fifth season will also premiere during the Fall schedule.

With Elementary changing their original time slot from a Thursday night to a Sunday night there was some initial worry that season four might have been the last of the show but thankfully that’s not the case.

Something may have been afoot if it was cancelled!

With Doherty’s credibility tied to Elementary it makes one wonder what type of show he may be involved with next. Another crime or detective show perhaps? Or something different?

Do you think Doherty will do right by this new deal and deliver good quality material to viewers or were you disappointed in what he’s already been credited for?
