Edgar Ramirez (Point Break, Deliver Us From Evil) has been reported by Deadline to be starring in and executive producing the real estate drama pilot for the streaming service Hulu. The show has yet to be officially titled but has been referred to as Monopoly.
According to Deadline, the show will revolve around two partners in the Manhattan real estate development industry who end up going head to head. Each is willing to leave it all on the field for their shot at complete domination.
Deadline states that Ramirez, the Venezuelan-born actor and Journalism major at Andres Bello Catholic University, will play one of the two rivals. He will be taking on the role of Moises Saladin, the charismatic heir to a Latin American real estate empire. Willing to do anything to succeed, he pushes past relying on talent alone and throws ethics to the side. In a quote found on his IMDb, Ramirez details his move from Journalism into acting, “That is the main reason why I’m an actor, and I wanted to be a diplomat and journalist. I have a deep fascination with human nature, with all its virtues and all its flaws. I am in my role as actor, but I think that basically what is professed a deep humanism.”
Deadline reports that the drama was created by Roberto Patino (DMZ, Sons of Anarchy), who recently was the showrunner and creator of the HBO limited series DMZ starring Rosario Dawson (Rent, Sin City). It was co-created by Cassius Corrigan (The Birthday Cake, The Unbreakable Tatiana Suarez) and will be directed by Alonso Ruizpalacios (La Cocina, A Cop Movie).
The studio has brought on real estate developer Donahue Peebles III as a technical consultant. Peebles will make a great consultant for this show as he himself is the heir to a real estate empire. Donahue Sr., aka Don, is the founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of a real estate investment and development company eponymously named Peebles Corporation. Donahue Sr. was named by Forbes as one of the most successful African American CEOs in the United States. Peebles III isn’t any slouch himself. Carrying on the torch early, he graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Economics. His profile on Legacy Real Estate Development claims he won the Affordable Housing Trailblazer award for being young visionary in the housing space in 2016.
