Eddie Murphy’s comeback keeps hitting highs as the legendary comedian will be awarded a Critics’ Lifetime Achievement Award according to Deadline. The award will be celebrating Eddie Murphy’s illustrious career and the decades he’s spent entertaining fans in a variety of ways. He’s acknowledged to have been one of the most prominent and accomplished African American actors of all time, having starred in several big blockbuster, one hundred million dollar projects, a claim that only a few actors in the industry can make. His resume includes The Nutty Professor, Dr. Dolittle, Beverely Hills Cop, 48 hrs, Coming To America and Dreamgirls where he earned an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor.
The Lifetime Award isn’t the only achievement that Murphy will be receiving next year, as he’s also being nominated for a Best Actor Golden Globe thanks to his performance as Rudy Ray Moore in the Netflix movie Dolemite Is My Name. The actor also returned to his roots by hosting Saturday Night Light, marking the first time he’d been a part of the show in more than three decades. His return helped gather Saturday Night Live’s largest rating in 2 years. On the show, Murphy reintroduced some of his most famous characters on SNL such as Buckwheat and Velvet Jones. There have been murmurs of the actor also potentially returning to standup, and confirmation that a sequel to Coming To America has been in development.
The Critics’ Choice Awards will be broadcast on the CW on Sunday, January 12, and will be held at Barkar Hanger in Santa Monica at 7PM Eastern.. Taye Diggs will be hosting the event. Eddie Murphy successfully conquered 80s Hollywood during his time, and now during the twilight years of his career it seems that he has his eyes set on conquering 2020 right now as well.
