Deadline reports that All Quiet on the Western Front director, writer, and co-producer, Ed Berger (Jack, All My Loving), is directing and executive producing the upcoming eight-episode Amazon Studios crime-thriller series, Helltown, from Susan Downey (Kiss Kiss Bang Banh, Dolittle) and Robert Downey Jr.’s (Iron Man, Oppenheimer) Team Downey and Mohamed Eli Masri (October Faction, Here and Now). All Quiet won Best International Film at the Oscars on Sunday night. Oscar Isaac is in talks to executive produce and star in the series.
Isaac would EP with Gena Konstantinakos (Made, Arctic Circle) through Isaac’s Mad Gene Banner which would produce the series with Amazon Studios and Team Downey. Isaac launched Mad Gene with his wife, writer and director Elvira Lind (Bobbi Jene, Songs for Alexis), in 2019. Mad Gene’s first project was short film The Letter Room, which was nominated for an Academy Award in 2021. He recently starred in Disney+’s Moon Knight and was nominated for both an Emmy and a SAG award for his role in HBO’s Scenes from a Marriage. Isaac can also be seen in Lorraine Hanberry’s (A Raisin in the Sun, Les Blancs) The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window along with Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) a the BAM Harvey Theater. Isaac is repped by Goodman Genow Schenkman and WME.
Helltown is based on the novel by Casey Sherman (A Rose for Mary, Boston Strong), which follows real-life serial killer of Cape Cod in 1969, Tony Costa, at the center of the vibrant hippie scene in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
Sherman is a bestselling author of 17 books. Those include The Finest Hour, which was adapted for film by Disney in 2016 and starred Chris Pine (The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, This Means War) and Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea, Gone Baby Gone), and Patriots Day which was adapted for film by CBS films in 2016 and starred Mark Wahlberg (Ted, Uncharted). Sherman is also executive producing and is repped by The Gotham Group, UTA, and VanderKloot Law.

Amanda Burrell (Hot Cities, Sweet Tooth), Downey, and Downey Jr. will be executive producing Helltown for Team Downey. Team Downey produced HBO series Perry Mason, which is currently airing season two. The company’s Netflix documentary about Robert Downey Sr., Sr., won the National Board of Review Best Documentary Award in 2022. They will also be producing upcoming A24/HBO series, The Sympathizer, and season two of Netflix’s Sweet Tooth. Team Downey is reportedly in post-production of Downey’s Discovery+ series, Dream Cars.
El Masri is a co-EP of Severance on Apple TV+, which is in production of its second season and he is repped by Jackoway Austen Tyerman, Anonymous Content, and UTA.
