According to Deadline, the new show Echo has premiered at number one on Disney+ as well as Hulu. All five episodes officially became available on Tuesday. The show consists of five key episodes for this season.
Deadline stated that Echo was a series of firsts for a Marvel show. This is because it is the first TV-MA series developed by Marvel, the first time all episodes were delayed at once to subscribers, and it is also the first time that Marvel has had two platforms stream a show at once.
While there have been no official numbers released in terms of viewership, Echo is currently performing better than some of the top-performing titles by Marvel. It has also become the first show to be placed under the Marvel spotlight banner, said Deadline.
Deadline also gave a synopsis for the show, saying that “Echo follows Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) as she is pursued by Wilson Fisk’s criminal empire. When the journey brings her home, she must confront her own family and legacy. Also starring are Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Graham Greene and Vincent D’Onofrio, who returns to the villainous role of Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin.”
Deadline examined why the show has become so popular, explaining that it is getting recognition due to its extensive representation- specifically of the deaf and indigenous communities. This representation comes on-screen through the characters but also continues off screen with the actors.
The series is directed by the likes of Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzie. Executive producers of the show include people such as Keven Feige, Stephen Broussard, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Richie Palmer, Jason Gavin, Marion Dayre and Sydney Freeland. Co-executive producers come in the form of Jennifer L. Booth as well as Amy Rardin, who also serves as a writer for the show, Deadline stated.
