Dungeons & Dragons fans can rejoice. Critical Role is set to return for a fourth campaign, and this time, we will explore the world of Aramán. A land whose people slayed their own gods, shaking its very foundations and causing magic to run amok. A logline for the new series is as follows.

Hero to many. Enemy to some. When Thjazi Fang is marked for execution, various figures from across his remarkable life unite to uncover the truth behind his grim fate. In a land still suffering from the fallout of dead gods and living in the shadow of a tumultuous rebellion, these disparate people will come together across the fractured world of Aramán and connect in ways they never imagined.

As hope and victory fade, a question hangs over Aramán: without the Gods, what great deeds now fall to us? And who, or what, shall grab their crown for themselves?”

Critical Role is an actual play series that features “nerdy ass voice actors playing Dungeons & Dragons”. This campaign will undergo a modern update playing by 2024 rules and will be a West Marches-style campaign, a format that emphasizes a larger player pool and flexible groups. There will be something for everyone with three different tables, each focusing on a different aspect of Aramán. The soldiers’ table will be combat-heavy, with action around every corner. The Seeker’s table will explore the lore and secrets behind Aramán. The schemers’ table will focus on deceit and espionage, and the relationships between players and NPCs will be cloaked in mystery.

The previous three campaigns took place in the world of Exandria, and with a new world comes a new dungeon master. Mathew Mercer (Thundercats, Attack On Titan) will be passing the role to Brennan Lee Mulligan (Dimension 20, Very Important People). The worlds are said to be linked for long-time fans of Exandria. Additionally, five new cast members will join, bringing the total to 14. New additions include Luis Carazo (The Legend Of Vox Machina, S.W.A.T.), Robbie Daymond (Wylde Pak, Devil May Cry), Aabria Iyanger (Mythic Quest, Dimension 20), Whitney Moore (Young Justice, DND Bitches), and Alexander Moore (Salem’s Lot, Westworld). Many of whom took to social media to share their excitement to explore Aramán.

Several of their returning cast members shared posts welcoming them.

Dungeons & Dragons has often been used in media to portray the nerd archetype, but it has undoubtedly created a strong community with a near cult-like following. Critical Role is one more venture to bring people together in their love of fantasy.
