According to an official Max press release, the streaming service revealed a new teaser trailer for the upcoming Dune: Prophecy series, a prequel to Dune and Dune: Part 2. Prophecy is a prequel to Dune and Dune: Part 2, two films that serve as an adaptation of the Dune novel by Frank Herbert (Chapterhouse: Dune, Children Of Dune). A sequel titled Dune: Messiah, based on the sequel novel of the same name, was announced, with Denis Villeneuve (The Arrival, Blade Runner 2049) returning to direct.
The six-episode series, based on Sisterhood Of Dune by Brian Herbert (Hunters Of Dune, Dune: House Harkonnen) and Kevin J. Anderson (Climbing Olympus, Blindfold), shows us the story of the foundation of the manipulative and influential Bene Gesserit sisterhood. The series’ longline reads: “From the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. Dune: Prophecy is inspired by the novel “Sisterhood of Dune,” written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.”
Prophecy stars Emily Watson (Warhorse, The Theory Of Everything), Chloe Lea (Great Expectations, Foundation), Jade Anouka (Trauma, Cleaning Up), Faoileann Cunningham (The Northman, The Witcher: Blood Origin), Edward Davis (Shadow and Bone, Sandition), Aoife Hinds (Normal People, Anne Boleyn), Chris Mason (Riverdale, Legend), Charithra Chandran (Alex Rider, Bridgerton), Jessica Barden (The Lobster, Pieces Of Her), Emma Canning (Trouble In Mind, Masters Of The Air), Yerin Ha (Halo, Reef Break), Olivia Williams (The Father, The Crown), Travis Fimmel (Warcraft, Vikings), Jodhi May (The Gambler, A World Apart), Mark Strong (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Cruella), Sarah-Sofie Boussnina (Kightfall, The Colony), Josh Heuston (Thor: Love And Thunder), Shalom Brune-Franklin (The Tourist, Line Of Duty), Jihae (Mars, Succession), Tabu (Life Of Pi).
Allison Schapker (Lost, Almost Human) serves as the series showrunner and also works as an executive producer. The series is co-produced by Max and Legendary Television. Legendary also serves as the producer for the film franchise.
