‘DuckTales’ Unveils First Look at Fan-Favorite Characters Ahead of One Hour Special

With DuckTales‘ first-ever hour long episode premiering on October 19th, Disney has unveiled the first look at two fan favorite characters. Comic Book has confirmed that Gosalyn Mallard and Taurus Bulba, two classic characters who fist appeared in 1991’s Darkwing Duck, will debut in the special episode entitled “Let’s Get Dangerous!”

The special episode was announced back in August alongside the titles for six other episodes in DuckTales‘ third season, three of which have already aired. “Let’s Get Dangerous!” will not only mark the series’ first hour-long episode, but also introduce more elements of the Darkwing Duck universe into the series. Darkwing Duck was a spin-off of the original 1987 DuckTales series focusing on the titular superhero Darkwing Duck. By day, he is the typical suburban dad Drake Mallard, raising his adopted daughter Gosalyn. By night, he teams up with DuckTales mainstay Launchpad McQuack to fight supervillains threatening the city of St. Canard.

The 2017 reboot of DuckTales has slowly been introducing elements of the Darkwing Duck show into its story. Season two saw the debut of the actual character alongside his arch-nemesis Negaduck. Season three will now introduce Drake Mallard’s adopted daughter Gosalyn into the fold, played by Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine). In an interview with Entertaiment Weekly, executive producer Matt Youngberg (Teen Titans) and co-executive producer and story editor Frank Angones (Wander Over Yonder) described the character and what she brings to the series: “To us, the original Darkwing Duck series was always about a father, a daughter and a Launchpad forming a found family and learning that family can… get dangerous. We’re so honored to get to complete that trio on DuckTales by introducing Gosalyn into the world of DuckTales. Gosalyn is one of the most iconic Disney Afternoon heroes: fun-loving, trouble-making, endlessly driven with a fierce sense of justice. And she’s the only person who can keep Darkwing’s sizable ego in check.”

“Let’s Get Dangerous!” will also bring back classic villain Taurus Bulba, who will be played by James Monroe Iglehart (a Broadway actor known for shows such as Hamilton and Aladdin). Youngberg and Angones detailed how the villain factors into this season’s overarching plot to Entertainment Weekly: “and along with Gosalyn, we had the chance to bring back the larger-than-life adversary who first brought Darkwing and Gosalyn together: Taurus Bulba. If Negaduck was Darkwing’s Joker, Bulba was his Lex Luthor. Reinvented as a charming but ruthless businessman with mysterious ties to Gosalyn’s family, Bulba holds the key to some of the biggest mysteries the Duck family will face this season.”

“Let’s Get Dangerous!” is set to premiere on October 19th. The first two seasons of DuckTales, along with the original and Darkwing Duck, are available to watch on Disney+. You can watch the teaser for the episode down below:
