Lifetime’s TV drama Drop Dead Diva has come back for another season.
After being canceled in January, the show about reincarnation has made its way back from the dead. The season five premiere titled “Back From the Dead” will air this Sunday.
Creator Josh Berman comments on the show’s come back: “Personally, I feel the show itself is about second chances, it’s about Deb coming to life as Jane and getting a second chance,” he says. “We look at the show as having a second chance.”
USA Today explains the decision behind the January cancellation as “the result of a financial impasse between Lifetime and studio Sony Pictures Television.” Lifetime executive Rob Sharenow said the network came up with “a new financial model” that lowered the price tag.
Sharenow goes on to say that fans expressed serious disappointment with the cancellation. “We definitely responded to the fans. There was a lot of fan disappointment that the show wasn’t coming back. That was a big part of the decision.”
The fourth season finale stands as last season’s most-watched episode. In the cliffhanger, Jane searches for her missing fiancé amid the impending arrival of Jane’s original soul in a new body.
Fans are excited to see what happens in season five.
