HBO’s Euphoria has been picked up for a season. The high-school teen drama has been joined by Drake and his manager, Future the Prince, in the role of executive producers. This is the first television project for Drake since Degrassi and will be the first time Drake has functioned as an EP. This A24 series was described by Francesca Orsi, SVP drama at HBO as, “Kids meets Trainspotting, and what might exist when parents don’t exist.”
Variety reported that it stars Zendaya as the protagonist, Rue. It also features Maude Apatow as Lexi and Storm Reid as Gia, Brian “Astro” Bradley as McKay, Angus McLoud as Fezco, Eric Dane as Cal, Alexa Demie as Jacob Elordi as Nate, Barbie Ferreira as Kat, Nika King as Leslie, Hunter Schafer as Jules, and Sydney Sweeney as Cassie.
The original Euphoria is an Israeli series that according to The Hollywood Reporter details the lives of a group of students as they, “navigate drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love, and friendship.” Sam Levinson is known for his work on HBO’s Wizard of Lies adapted the series for HBO and American audiences.
Levinson is also serving as an executive producer, as are Drake and Future The Prince (mentioned above). They will be joined by Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin as well as the Israeli series’ creators which include Ravi Nandan, Kevin Turen, Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, Tmira Yardeni, Mirit Toovi, Yoram Mokady and Gary Lennon. The pilot was directed by Augustine Frizzell who is a co-EP.
