A new rumor states that Donald Glover (Community) is set to return as Lando Calrissian in an all-new Disney+ show starring the character, Comic Book has reported. It is unknown if Glover has already signed on or is still in talks, but Lucasfilm is eager to work with the actor again.
While unconfirmed, the character’s rich history and new appearances would lend itself to a show. Glover debuted in the Star Wars universe in the role in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, quickly becoming a beloved take on the classic character and one of the most popular parts of the film. Billy Dee Williams (Batman), who originated the role in The Empire Strikes Back, returned as his character in last year’s The Rise of Skywalker. Williams has also made consistent appearances as Lando in other Star Wars shows such as Star Wars Rebels.
Being a character of both the Original and Sequel Trilogies, it is currently unknown when this new show would take place in the Star Wars timeline. Kessel Run Transmissions, the Star Wars fan podcast that first reported this rumor, has made it clear that Glover will headline the series if it gets the greenlight from Lucasfilm. With Glover’s return, it is most likely that the show would be closer to the Originals and Solo: A Star Wars Story. However, in an interview with Fandago’s Erik Davis, Williams stated that he “hesitates to say [The Rise of Skwyalker] concludes” Lando’s story. Comic Book references the fact that The Rise of Skywalker raised more questions than answers to what Lando did in-between trilogies, and refers to speculation “that a project focused on Lando wouldn’t just rest on Donald Glover’s shoulders.”

The rumor comes from a reputable source. In June, Kessel Run Transmissions was the first to report on a spin-off show focusing on the characters of the Bad Batch, from Star Wars: The Clone Wars‘ final season. This was later confirmed last week.
This rumored series is still under negotiations and may not come to fruition at all. Either way, all the films of the Star Wars universe are available to watch on Disney+, alongside series such as Star Wars: The Clone Wars and The Mandalorian.
