Dominic Fike (Magnum P.I., Earth Mama), a successful singer and songwriter, had his breakthrough acting role on Sam Levinson’s (The Idol, X) critically acclaimed HBO teen drama series Euphoria. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fike almost faced serious repercussions for his drug abuse on and off the set of Euphoria.
Fike played the enigmatic character Elliot on season two of Euphoria. Given that this series is largely about drug addiction and the trials and tribulations that go along with addiction, Fike struggled immensely in the role.
In an interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music, Fike said, “I mean I was a drug addict and coming onto a show mainly about drugs was very difficult. Sam, the director and writer, he got me a sober coach, somebody to be there you know all the time. Did not work. I was so fucked up during a lot of that show. It was really bad.”
Fike supposedly had a tendency to show up to set high and when Lowe asked if Fike had ever been legitimately high in the scenes where his character abused drugs he admitted that he had been. Fike told Lowe, “I almost got kicked off the show. They were like, ‘Bro you cannot be doing this.'”
Fike mentioned the struggle that came with fame saying that “they give you a bunch of money and they’re just like, ‘yeah figure it out, bud. Sink or swim.'”
On a happier note, Fike will be returning to season three sober. He says he’s actually looking forward to returning and that his relationships will have a better dynamic, but maybe not with Hunter Schafer (Belle, Cuckoo). Schafer and Fike had a romatic relationship in the early months of 2022.
While it may be awakward, Fike noted that him and Schafer will be fine and professional on set because they are both adults, or at least he mentions he is trying to be an adult. In regards to relationships that occur after filming television shows and movies, Fike explains that “you’re in this very sped-up form of intimacy like, just things move so much faster. I was saying it’s like getting naked in front of somebody , acting. You know you’re just doing this very silly thing, and you’re just forced to be like your silliest and like most vulnerable in front of somebody, and obviously that accelerates any sort of intimacy that there might already be and so relationships or flings are put on a fast track.”
However, after the show ends, Fike notes that the spark quickly dies, saying that “you’re like, what the fuck do we talk about actually? Do you actually know who I am?”
The singer of the hit song “3 Nights” says he is taking a break from dating celebrities and public figures because it’s always difficult to get over them after the relationship fizzles. Fike says “It’s not that hard to like not date another famous person. Every time I go through a breakup now it’s like I gotta see somebody on a damn billboard, or like God, it’s a bitch, brother.”
Unfortunately for lovers of Euphoria, season three is not expected to be released until at least 2025.
