It seems the fans will get to explore the Continent through different eyes. According to Comicbook, Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV, Arrow) has joined the cast of a new The Witcher spinoff. The news comes from an interview Lundgren did with the Swedish outlet Aftonbladet. No other information about the spinoff was revealed during the interview but, according to Comicbook, it could be connected to the spinoff featuring the Rats. Information about the spinoff was leaked earlier this year but Netflix still hasn’t officially announced the series. The Rats first appeared in The Witcher’s book Time of Contempt. The third season of The Witcher will use that book as source material, likely leading to the Rats being introduced to the audience in this new season.
According to Comicbook, the spinoff is using the working title “Riff Raff” to keep the show’s production low-key. The show is rumored to follow the story of a group of teenage thieves with limited criminal skills that will attempt the biggest heist of their thieving careers against the most dangerous crime ring in the kingdom. This is where the speculation of who Lundgren will play starts. Taking into consideration the ages of the main characters, it is most likely that he will be playing one of the criminals the Rats are trying to steal from, but everything is still unconfirmed by Netflix which means this information is mostly rumors and speculation.
The Witcher follows three different perspectives at different points in time. One of the characters that it follows is Geralt, played by Henry Cavill (Enola Holmes, Justice League), a monster hunter known as a witcher as he realizes he has a bigger part to play in the destiny of the Continent. The other character is Yennefer, played by Anya Chalotra (Wanderlust, The ABC Murders), a young woman that discovers she has magical abilities and is sent to train and hone her magic so that she can be of service to a kingdom of the continent. The last character the show follows is Ciri, played by Freya Allan (Gunpowder Milkshake, The Third Day) a young princess who lives with her grandmother Queen Calanthe, played by Jodhi May (Gentleman Jack, The Silent Twins), and her life takes a wrong turn when her kingdom is destroyed in a war that leaves all her family dead and her on the run.
The Rats spinoff hasn’t been confirmed yet and no release date has been rumored or announced. Season three of The Witcher will premiere its first part on June 29 and the second part on July 27 on Netflix. Seasons one and two of the show are available to watch on Netflix. The new Witcher prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin is also available to stream on Netflix.
