DMV the brand new workplace comedy from CBS Comedy, premiered this week; however, instead of receving a grand welcome with critics, it received a very mixed and underwhelming reception from critics, as it has only accrued only a 56 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, placing it directly into the rotten category according to Screenrant. You can watch the trailer for the show here:
The official Logline of the show is: “It’s the job nobody wants, but the hangout you won’t want to miss”. The show follows the daily work lives of Alex Tarrant (800 words, NCI’s Hawaii) as Noa, Harriet Dyer (No activity, Love Child) as Colette, and their coworkers as they navigate working in the DMV workplace sitcom, in a similar vein to Abbot Elementary and The Office.
In fact it appears the show did not just fail to make a splash with critics, as through the entire week, the show has yet to appear on Paramount+’s top 10 streaming shows list, while Southpark continues to keep its crown as the most-streamed show on the platform. And even though it appeared on the Amazon channels subsection of the app in the number eight most-streamed show, even this did not bring much to the show as it quickly fell out of said chart as well, according to Screenrant.
And even CBS’s other sitcoms such as Georgie and Mandy’s first marriage and The Neighborhood, are leaving DMV in a hardspot to compete for viewers as the new show on the platform, however this appears to be an ill omen, as this lackluster performance, could make CBS regretful of having ordered 20 episodes for the show, amounting to a complete first season to be produced in anticipation for the series premiere. Though the ratings so far are not as bad as 3.93 million viewers tuned in for the premiere, which is something that should not be taken lightly, as it drew more numbers than The Neighborhood which is currently in it’s final season, drawing in 3.85 million viewers, which is a good counterargument against the detractors of the show, according to Screenrant.
However, considering it is only the start for this show, we should not just write it off as a flop because of this, as the thing that matters most and sets the tune for a show’s success is viewership and ratings, and so far the judgment from that has barely just begun
