The first episode of Star Wars: The Mandalorian on Disney+ will air across Disney’s affiliate cable networks ABC, Freeform and FX on February 24. This is the first time the show will be broadcasted, via What’s On Disney Plus.
This season, another warrior reveals themselves in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order, an organization formed after the deaths of Palpatine and Darth Vader, meant to continue the Empire’s mission to bring the galaxy under the rule of the dark side while using a different name in order to restore the Galactic Empire to its former glory. A period of time that has not been explored much by other Star Wars media. In the show audiences follow the journeys of a solo gunfighter in the outskirts of the galaxy.
The first episode—-which will air on Disney’s linear channels ABC, Freeform and FX—-is set in the anarchical byproduct of the Galactic Empire. The third season continues the journey of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy. The New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian, played by Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.
Season three will have eight episodes and will be released on March 1. Directors for this season include Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Rachel Morrison (Black Panther), Lee Isaac Chung (Minari), Carl Weathers (Friday Foster), Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse) and actress Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World).
Disney previously released several episodes on these cable networks with another one of their Star Wars properties, Andor, last year to encourage more people to stream it on Disney+. With The Mandalorian broadcasting across these channels, it is clear that Disney is trying the method out again.
The Mandalorian seasons one and two are available to stream now on Disney+.
