PEN15 co-creator and star Maya Erskine (Insecure) will join the Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi from Disney+, according to Deadline. The actress will appear in at least three of the six episodes in the series, which is currently in pre-production and set to begin production soon.
Erskine joins a roster of previously announced stars, including Ewan McGregor (Fargo) as Obi-Wan and Hayden Christensen (Jumper) as Vader. According to Deadline, Joel Edgerton (The Underground Railroad), Bonnie Piesse (Star Wars: Episode III), Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick), Indira Varma (Rome), Rupert Friend (Homeland), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Swagger), Sung Kang (Power), Simone Kessell (Reckoning) and Benny Safdie (Togetherness) will round out the cast. Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian) will direct the show.
Deadline reports that Obi-Wan Kenobi will be set “ten years after Revenge Of The Sith and nine years before A New Hope, in an era after the Jedi Order has been all but wiped out.” Further details of the plot have not been announced.
Star Wars continues to be a prolific property, with Obi-Wan Kenobi added to a list of TV spinoffs currently in the works, according to Deadline. This includes series like The Book of Boba Fett, prequel to Rogue One, Rangers of The New Republic, and a Mandalorian series following Ahsoka Tano.
Erskine is best known for her role of Maya Ishii-Peters in Hulu’s Emmy-nominated series PEN15, which she co-created with Anna Konkle (Baskets). She also stars in Netflix’s female-led comedy Wine Country and the upcoming film Sacramento.
