Dan Povenmire (Hamster & Gretel), co-creator of the Disney Channel show Phineas and Ferb, has revealed tease about the upcoming revival of the show. A two-season comeback of the animated children’s show was announced back in January. According to Screenrant, the Disney Channel and Disney XD show, which ran for four seasons, two movies, and won multiple Emmys, followed two inventor step-brothers, Phineas and Ferb, during their summer break.
Phineas Flynn, voiced by Vincent Martella (Everybody Hates Chris), and Ferb Fletcher, voiced by Thomas Sangster (Love Actually), spent their summer days with friends, creating unbelievable inventions that sister Candice, voiced by Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical), didn’t approve of. Candice was motivated by exposing her brother’s unfathomable inventions to their mother, who never seemed to see them before they disappeared. Each episode’s b-story followed the family’s pet platypus, Perry, who would disappear each day to fight against the crimes of Dr. Doofenshmirtz, who wanted to take over the tri-state area.
Povenmire spoke with The Pop Insider at New York Comic Con and stated that the show’s revival will take place the summer after the events of the first few seasons. Most of the original crew will be returning for the Phineas and Ferb revival as well. Via Screenrant, Povenmire told The Pop Insider, “It’ll probably be the following summer. It’s basically the same show as before, we’ve got a lot of the same staff. We realized we hadn’t run out of ideas yet… I think with the pandemic, a lot of people went back to that for a comfort show and I think that really pushed the numbers up…” Phineas and Ferb ran from 2007 to 2015, and the positive ratings prove that the simplicity of the show needs no change.
Speculation points to the Phineas and Ferb revival coming back to Disney sometime in 2024, depending on when movement is made on the SAG-AFTRA strike.
