Deadline has reported that Percy Jackson and the Olympians has become the highest-viewed Disney Branded Television premiere of all time, according to Disney. The series received 13.3 million views on both Hulu and Disney+ globally within six days.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians premiered two episodes on Disney+ and one episode on Hulu on December, 19 at 6 p.m. PT. The eight-episode season will continue to release installments on Disney+ weekly at 6 p.m. PT on Tuesdays. The third episode is available to stream on the platform now.
The show is based on Rick Riordan’s (The Chalice of the Gods, The Sun and the Star) best-selling series of novels and stars Walker Scobell (The Adam Project, Secret Headquarters) as Percy Jackson, Aryan Simhadri (The Main Event, Trevor: The Musical) as Grover Underwood, and Leah Jeffries (Beast, Something from Tiffany’s) as Annabeth Chase.
The cast also includes Charles Bushnell (Diary of a Future President, In the Know) as Luke Castellan, Adam Copeland (Bending the Rules, Money Plane) as Ares, Virginia Kull (The Looming Tower, The Big Bend) as Sally Jackson, Megan Mullally (Parks and Recreation, Bob’s Burgers) as Alecto, and Timm Sharp (Blue Talk, Undeclared) as Gabe Ugliano.
Riordan’s Percy Jackson books were previously adapted into a film series. Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lighting Thief was released on February 12, 2010, and Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Sea of Monsters on August 7, 2013. The film series starred Logan Lerman (Stuck in Love, Perks of Being a Wallflower), Brandon T. Jackson (Tropic Thunder, Lottery Ticket), and Alexandria Daddario (The White Lotus, True Detectives).
Percy Jackson and the Olympians was created by Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg (The Old Man, Black Sails). The two executive produce the series with D.J.
