Disney+’s ‘Moon Knight’ Nabs First Emmy Award

Last night at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, the Disney+ and Marvel’s mystery series, Moon Knight, won its first Emmy Award for Outstanding Sound Editing For A Limited Or Anthology Series, Movie Or Special. Fifteen members of the series sound team will share the award.

Moon Knight was nominated for 8 Emmy Awards across the two Creative Arts ceremonies and lost in all other categories. F. Murray Abraham earned nomination for his work as Khonshu on the series, although the award ultimately went to Chadwick Boseman for his posthumously released work for another Marvel property, What If…?. Boseman’s wife accepted the award on his behalf, as revealed by The Hollywood Reporter.

Other limited series categories saw HBO’s anthology juggernaut, The White Lotus, beat Moon Knight in sound categories, including Outstanding Music Composition and Outstanding Sound Mixing. Hulu’s Dopesick won over Moon Knight in Outstanding Cinematography For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie. Netflix’s global phenomenon Squid Game won the award for Outstanding Stunt Performance, a category where four stunt artists from Moon Knight were nominated for the episode “Gods and Monsters.” Moon Knight also lost the award for Outstanding Stunt Coordination For A Drama Series, Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie, which went to Netflix’s Stranger Things, another series with an undeniable cultural impact.

The award for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes, a category where Moon Knight was in contention against two other Disney+ series, Loki and The Book Of Boba Fett, ultimately went to FX’s vampire comedy, What We Do In The Shadows. Other nominees include Paramount+’s Star Trek: Picard and Netflix’s The Witcher.

On August 3rd, Moon Knight executive producers Mohamed Diab and Oscar Isaac, who also stars in the series, were featured in a TikTok video from Diab’s daughter. When asked if the show would return for second season, Isaac responds with, “Why else would we be in Cairo?” The next day, when a fan on Twitter criticized the series for its Jewish representation, Diab clarified that there was currently no future for the related character but that the criticism was “[so] valid.”

Disney+ has yet to confirm if Moon Knight will return for a second season.
