Disney has released some plot details on Jon Favreau’s new live action Star Wars series. Not much has been heard of from the series once the announcement of a live action series was made. However now, there was a report released called Making Star Wars, and in that report there were some exciting details released about the upcoming series.
In the report it states, the show could be taking place three year after the the second Death Star’s destruction and the death of Emperor Palpatine from the movie Return of the Jedi. This means that the series will be during the Luke Skywalker era. This means that the series will be set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. The planet that the show will take place is Mandalore, which is in a “state of turmoil” with multiple groups attempting to restore the planet to what it once was, and the effects are felt throughout the galaxy.
With the series going to Mandalore this means it will possibly be about the Mandalorians, whom are legendary warriors that were then ruled by the Empire. The most iconic Mandalorian warrior was Boba Fett, maybe in the series fans will also learn more about the bounty hunter. This could also connect to major events from the prequel movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the animated series Star Wars Rebels.
The budget for the upcoming series is huge. It is $100 million for a ten episode series. Disney is not holding anything back, and doing everything it can to make the series a success.
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said, “I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform. Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”
Favreau also said, “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”
