The second Marvel Studios series to hit Disney+ has concluded its first, and possibly, its only season. Running for six episodes, Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiered on March 19 before airing its finale episode on April 23. During the closing moments of the series, the MCU included a final scene which provided the ultimate reveal of Agent Sharon Carter as the Power Broker, according to Deadline. The Power Broker has acted as the figure behind the scenes within Madripoor, ultimately impacting the main antagonist group the Flag Smashers’ decisions.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier marked the return of Emily VanCamp (Revenge) to the role of Agent Sharon Carter, the great-niece of Peggy Carter, to the MCU since her last appearance in Captain America: Civil War. In her return to the role, VanCamp appeared in four of the six episodes. The ultimate reveal of her character being the Power Broker was a shock to many fans as they question why the character would give the heroes of the series the location of Nagle, the creator, and controller of the superhero serum.
The Power Broker appeared in various Marvel Comics that play around the technology and science that can lead to an individual’s transformation towards superhero powers. Despite Carter’s nefarious alter-ego, she is saved by Anthony Mackie’s (The Hurt Locker) Sam Wilson, or Falcon, in the final moments of the series. In addition to Carter’s new role within the MCU, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier also allows for new stories with Wyatt Russell’s (Overlord) government made John Walker as a United States agent. Once more, it is uncertain whether or not the series will return for a second season, yet the closing moments of its first season lead to multiple future possibilities for the MCU and Sharon Carter.
The Falcon and the Winter Solider has been filled with various cameos of other MCU characters such as the Dora Milaje and Florence Kasumba’s (Wonder Woman) Ayo in addition to Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Seinfeld) as the villain Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
