Disney+ Removes ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ from August Schedule

The first of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series to appear on Disney+ has been delayed has been delayed. As confirmed by Screen Rant, Disney+’s August slate of releases no longer includes the highly anticipated The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The series’ page on the Disney+ service now lists The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as premiering in Fall 2020. Disney never gave an exact release date for the show, but former Disney CEO Bob Iger originally confirmed it for August. The delay is not entirely unexpected, as Marvel halted filming for the series back in March due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Anthony Mackie (8 Mile), who stars in the series and the MCU as the Falcon, assured fans last month that that there is little left to be filmed. Despite this, filming has not progressed since then, and it is unknown when filming will resume.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is the second MCU production to be delayed this year, following Black Widow‘s delay from May. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is meant to launch an entirely new wing of the universe, as the Disney+ shows are developed by Marvel Studios concurrently with the films. Previous Marvel shows such as Daredevil were handled by the separate Marvel Entertainment and had few minor ties to the MCU. These new Disney+ shows star characters from the original movies and directly impact the new films going forward.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Mackie and Sebastian Stan (The Martian) as their respective titular heroes as they try to adapt to a new world without their leader and friend Captain America (Chris Evans, Snowpiercer) while an old threat re-emerges. Emily VanCamp (Carriers) returns as Sharon Carter and Wyatt Russell (Overlord) will debut in his first MCU production as US Agent.

The rest of the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are available on Disney+.
