After revealing the first photos last week, Disney has officially unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming second season of The Mandalorian. Collider has reported that while the trailer doesn’t reveal much in the way of plot, it gives fans an idea of what to expect.
The first season of The Mandalorian focused on the titular character (also known as Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, Game of Thrones) finding and protecting “The Child” – called “Baby Yoda” by fans. Discovering the Child’s ability to use the Force, the season ended with the Mandalorian agreeing to find the Jedi and deliver the Child to them. The trailer focuses on that quest, reusing lines from the first season about the Mandalorian’s new mission. Not much is revealed about the Jedi in this trailer – though the appearance of a new, hooded figure (played by WWE wrestler Sasha Banks) implies that they (or other Force-users) will be shown. In May, it was reported that the Jedi Ahsoka Tano will appear in this second season, played by Rosario Dawson (The Defenders).
The trailer showcases familiar and all-new locations. Among them is the desert planet Tatooine, complete with a classic Tusken Raider and Bantha. We also see the Mandalorian and Child in a dimly-lit, urban environment, caverns of ice, a port next to an expansive sea, and a fight ring. Returning characters Cara Dune (Gina Carano, Deadpool) and Greef Karga (Carl Weathers, Rocky) make brief appearances on Nevarro, one of the main locations from the first season. The trailer also showcases classic Star Wars iconography, including X-Wings, TIE Fighters, and Stormtroopers.
The trailer promises more of the father-child bond between the main characters. The Mandalorian declares in the trailer that “wherever I go, he goes,” reinforcing that their bond is still the core of the series. The trailer ends with Djarin once again fighting off bounty hunters who seek the Child.
The first season of The Mandalorian is available to stream on Disney+. Check out the trailer for season 2 below.
