The upcoming addition to the Star Wars franchise is preparing to hit Disney+’s streaming catalog in a short period of time. The streaming service has officially released the first look trailer at Star Wars: The Bad Batch, which is set to premiere on May 4 in honor of Star Wars Day, according to a Disney press release. The new Star Wars series will be an animated program and will begin its first season run with a 70-minute pilot episode. Following this release, the series will release the second episode on May 7 and will continue to release the remaining episodes on a weekly basis. Created by Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Avatar: The Last Airbender), the series is being produced by Lucasfilm in correspondence to being based on the characters created by George Lucas (Star Wars, American Graffiti, Indiana Jones)
Star Wars: The Bad Batch will center on a select group of clone troopers, aptly named Clone Force 99 and nicknamed the titular Bad Batch. Clone Force 99 will be observed by viewers as they navigate dangerous missions following the conclusion of the Clone War in the Star Wars universe. The series’ voice cast includes the accomplished voice actor Dee Bradley Baker (Space Jam, Phineas and Ferb, American Dad!) voicing each and every single clone trooper within the animated series which includes Crosshair, Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Echo, and Captain Rex. Additional voice cast members include Stephen Stanton (Rogue One) as Grand Moff Tarkin, Ming-Na Wen (ER, Mulan) as Fennec Shand, and Andrew Kishino (Steven Universe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Saw Gerrera.
The experimental grouping of these clone troopers will pick up after the conclusion of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which saw its final seventh season conclude its run in 2020. Star Wars: The Bad Batch will mark the second Star Wars franchise series to hit the Disney+ streaming service following the success of The Mandalorian. The series will then be followed by the releases of The Book of Boba Fett, Star Wars: Andor, Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars: Ahsoka, Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic, Star Wars: Visions, Star Wars: The Acolyte, Star Wars: Lando.
