Disney+ is getting more Bluey, according to Deadline, and will be releasing a new episode called “Surprise” on Sunday, April 21st at 12 a.m. PT. Additionally, the episode will have multiple airings throughout the day on Disney Junior at 7 a.m. PT and Disney Channel at 7:30 a.m. PT. The Emmy-winning Australian cartoon ranked second in the US last year, according to The Guardian.
“Surprise” follows the highly anticipated global television premieres of “The Sign” and “Ghostbasket,” which aired on April 7th.
The show, which was created and written by Joe Brumm (WTF 101, The Meek), centers on Bluey, a charming and boundless Blue Heeler dog who lives with her parents and younger sister, Bingo. Bluey brings her family and the entire neighborhood into her world of fun by using her boundless energy to play games that have hilarious and unpredictable outcomes.
In an interview with The Guardian, Brumm revealed what kind of material inspired Bluey, saying that the comedy Gavin and Stacey “was influential in a big way.”
Brumm stated: “I loved how it genuinely crossed generations, like The Simpsons back in the day. I thought: ‘Why shouldn’t a kids’ show make parents laugh too?’ When the time came to do Bluey, that became the challenge.”
Brumm claimed that Bluey was an Australian version of Peppa Pig and that the English animated series “felt really English but without cliches or flag-waving,” as reported by Deadline.
The creator also commented: “Mr Bull would be digging up the road and say: ‘It’ll be finished when it’s finished.’ There are canal boats and castles in the background, that’s what I wanted my show to do – to feel Australian but not with kangaroos and koalas, just by capturing the fabric of everyday life.”
SPOILERS! Variety claims that the Heeler family, along with every adult viewing the extended-length special “The Sign,” has been in shock over the decision to sell the cherished family home. Fortunately, the transaction fell through. For the time being, Bluey and company will remain in their recognizable stained-glass home. The emotional turns and twist in Bluey are unpredictable, but when they do come, they come hard. That much is certain.
