Disney+ released the first teaser trailer for their next Star Wars spinoff series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, which features the return of Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting) starring as Kenobi, on Wednesday. McGregor starred as Kenobi in each of the three Star Wars prequels, including Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones, and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith.
The new series takes place 10 years after the events of Revenge Of The Sith, according to Star Wars’ official site. The film showed Kenobi’s apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, played by Hayden Christensen (Shattered Glass), become the infamous Darth Vader. The series will show the aftermath of those events and how Kenobi manages to survive the newly formed Galactic Empire, who are hunting down all remaining Jedi Knights that survived Order 66, which wiped out the majority of the Jedi Order.
Christensen will also make his return to Star Wars in the show as Vader. Last March, Disney+ announced the Obi-Wan Kenobi cast list, which includes Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby), Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick), Bonnie Piesse (My Husband’s Jump), Indira Varma (Bride & Prejudice), Rupert Friend (The Death Of Stalin), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Sung Kang (The Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift), Simone Kessell (Reckoning), and Benny Safdie (Good Time). Edgerton and Piesse are also making returns to the Star Wars universe as Owen and Beru Lars, whom they played in Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith.
McGregor will also serve as an executive producer for Obi-Wan Kenobi alongside Kathleen Kennedy (Jurassic Park), Michelle Rejwan (Super 8), Deborah Chow (Better Call Saul), and Joby Harold (Edge Of Tomorrow). Chow will also be directing and serving as showrunner.
The show continues Disney+’s long lineup of Star Wars spinoff series, which has included the critically-acclaimed The Mandalorian and The Book Of Boba Fett.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will begin streaming exclusively on Disney+ on May 25th.
