Disney+ has officially ordered a new animated Darkwing Duck series, with Mark Hamill (Star Wars, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Wild Robot) set to voice the titular superhero. According to ScreenRant, the upcoming series will revive the character 35 years after the original animated series debuted in 1991.

Hamill will voice Darkwing Duck, also known as Drake Mallard, taking over the role originally voiced by Jim Cummings. The original Darkwing Duck ran for 91 episodes and followed the superhero adventures of Drake Mallard.

The new series will find Darkwing Duck trapped in an alternate world where he has spent the past 35 years unaware of his previous superhero exploits. His life changes when a teenager named Duckie arrives and reveals his past, encouraging him to once again become the crime-fighting Darkwing Duck.

Darkwing and Duckie will work together as they encounter several characters from the original series. Former enemies Negaduck and Megavolt are set to appear, while Darkwing will also reunite with allies including Launchpad McQuack, Gosalyn Mallard and Morgana.

Hamill will be joined by Seth Rogen (The Studio, Superbad, Pineapple Express) as Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan (Mean Girls, Masters of Sex, Fleishman Is in Trouble) as Gosalyn Mallard and Lilimar (Bella and the Bulldogs, Cleopatra in Space, Inside Out 2) as Duckie.

The voice cast also includes Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, Beauty and the Beast, Legion) as Glade McTowers, Tiffany Shepis (Victor Crowley, The Violent Kind, Tales of Halloween) as Rosa, Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Freaky, Big Little Lies) as Firecracker, Teo Briones (Chucky, Ratched, Wind River) as Timb, Tyler Dean Flores (Reefa, Miguel Wants to Fight, The Dark Knight Rises) as Pondsy, Katie Rich (Saturday Night Live, Chicago Party Aunt, The Second City Project) as Officer Shanks and Nat Faxon (The Descendants, The Way Way Back, Married) as Officer Webb.

Sean Tretta (12 Monkeys, Devils Night, Death of a Ghost Hunter) and Borja Peña Gorostegui (Lost & Crowned, 5 More Sleeps ‘til Christmas) will serve as executive producers. Rogen, Evan Goldberg (Superbad, This Is the End, The Studio), James Weaver (Neighbors, Good Boys, This Is the End), Alex McAtee (The Studio, Long Shot, An American Pickle) and Gabby Grantham (Long Shot, Good Boys, The Disaster Artist) will produce through Point Grey Pictures. Tad Stones (Aladdin, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Hercules), who created the original Darkwing Duck series, will return to consult on the development of the new series.

A release date for the new Darkwing Duck series has not yet been announced.
