The upcoming series will star Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction), who is returning as his classic Marvel character Nick Fury. Other past Marvel cast members that will return in Secret Invasion include Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as Talos, Don Cheadle (House Of Lies) as James “Rhody” Rhodes A.K.A. War Machine, and Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) as Maria Hill. Emilia Clarke (Game Of Thrones), Kingsley Ben-Adir (The OA), and Olivia Colman (The Crown) will also star in the series.
Secret Invasion is yet another TV series created by Marvel for Disney+. Other Marvel series released on the streaming service include WandaVision, Loki, Hawkeye, What If…?, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, which is currently in the middle of its first season.
Variety provided a description of Secret Invasion: “In the series, Fury returns to Earth and teams up with Talos to prevent a Skrull invasion. Hill has been calling Fury to help back on the planet, but this time he’s finally back to deal with the dangerous Skrull threat. In one scene, Talos faces down Ben-Adir’s character as other Skrulls in the room take on the same appearance as Ben-Adir.”
Smulders discussed the tone of the upcoming series during Marvel’s presentation at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con in July.
“Like (Executive Producer) Kevin [Feige] was saying, this is a darker show. It’s going to be an exciting thriller. You’re never going to know who people are. Are they a Skrull or are they human?” Smulders said, per Variety.
Secret Invasion will release on Disney+ in Spring 2023.
