Disney+ Might Be Delaying Hawkeye Spinoff Series ‘Echo’

According to Comicbook.com, Disney+’s latest Marvel superhero series, Echo, might be hit with a huge delay in its release date. The spinoff show was set to debut this coming summer alongside Secret Invasion and the second season of Loki, though showrunner Marion Dayre (Better Call Saul, The Act) has recently implied that the project will be delayed until late 2023 or possibly even early 2024.

In an article from the crew at Murphy’s Multiverse, insider Charles Murphy wrote that the long-awaited spinoff would debut “in early 2024” possibly by mid-January and run until the end of February. The delay was first revealed by Dayre herself earlier this month on author Ben Blacker’s (The Thrilling Adventure Hour, Cut and Run) podcast, The Writer’s Panel, wherein she stated that it would take “probably a year from when this comes out” (referring to the aforementioned episode of The Writer’s Panel).

Dayre also revealed in the same episode of The Writer’s Panel that her time as a showrunner on a Marvel series has been drastically different from her prior experiences in Hollywood, though she was able to bring some of her knowledge from her time working on shows like Better Call Saul and The Act as useful information in the development of Echo.

Dayre later added, “you do sort of a general overall break, and then we lay out some arcs, and then we go back in and brick by brick. There just simply was not enough time to do it that way. So it was sort of grabbing things from like, The Act, which was a limited series on Hulu, which we broke fairly quickly, so taking some of that, you know, laying out some tent poles that we more or less stuck with and shifting them around with the way that we did.”

As written by Marvel.com, Echo follows the titular character of Maya Lopez, played by up and coming actor Alaqua Cox, shortly after the events in Hawkeye as she returns to her hometown in Oklahoma in order to face the truth of her past, reconnect with her Native American roots, and embrace the community she left behind. The show is slated to be a part of the highly-anticipated Phase Five of the MCU, which will begin with the debut of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania on February 17, 2023.
